Real Men Drive Minivans

Our cameraman was telling me today about a TV commercial he saw recently with a bunch of guys at the gym. He says they were "pumping the weights and they were riding the bikes, and the muscles are bulging, and the sweat is pouring off of them, and the girls are all looking at them going " oh, wow". And the a voice comes over the P.A system and says; "Will the owner of the blue mini-van, please go to your vehicle. Your headlights are on." Then one of the guys looks a little furtive but keeps riding his bike, and the voice comes back on. So the guy kind of looks sheepish, he gets of his bike and walks away and the girls are all going "eeeew a mini van driver". I'm thinking, why do mini-vans have this kind of image? I mean, the marketing guys keep telling us that you have to drive a big SUV preferable with lots of lights on the roof to play night baseball to proove that you're a macho, rough, frontier, and outdoor type of guy. Or you got to buy a 400 hp sports car to proove that you're a rough, tough racecar driving type of guy. The guy with a mini-van with a boatload of kids on board has already proven that he's a macho guy. He's got the proof right behind him. I mean, it's like walking up to a chick and showing them a picture of your family and saying "sweetheart you got a 50% chance of having a kid that looks as good as that." It doesn't work, but it probably should. So, you mini-van drivers, there's no reason to be ashamed, there's no reason for you to think that people think that you are boring. You've proven that you can make it happen. So, walk tall and drive proud.
