Be gone with unions!

There are those that predict that in the not too distant future, there will no longer be any worker’s unions present in our society. The sooner that day comes the better.

The reason for its initial inception to protect the worker is a great one and had they maintained a reasonable outlook, then they would still be very useful, but today they are nothing more than a drag on society and the companies that have to put up with them.

The UAW has had its way with both Ford and GM and now looks to paint Chrysler with that same brush. Large multinational companies like the ‘Big 3’ certainly need something to keep them in toe, but a union run by a bunch of lazy and time-wasting people is not the solution.

When a company is going through troublesome times and is doing the best to make ends meet, how can a union have the right to go on strike because they feel unfairly treated? Unions have managed to destroy companies many a time in the past and they will continue to do so until that day comes when they are annihilated.

I have written a number of articles on Saab and how they have been fairing pitted against their unfortunate demise. The corporate execs are to be blamed for not managing to steer the Swedish company properly, but when a potential new investor is on the horizon, two Swedish unions then ask a district court to formally declare Saab bankrupt so union members could receive their still-unpaid August salaries. How is that actually possible? The unions don’t take any risks, their workers get to work, tighten a few bolts and screws and go home when the important decisions still need to be made by the big boys and girls. How can a union have the power to close a hugely popular car manufacturer that has been operating since the 1940s?

Time and time again they have proven that they are utterly selfish in their desires and that any form of synergy between both parties is of no interest, but more of a ‘how much can I get out of you’ approach. Too much power has been handed to a group of underachievers who make any kind of proactive actions and intentions impossible to accomplish. Protect the workers, but existing unions are not the answer.
