Traffic Light Conspiracy

      It’s seems drivers in Toronto are finally catching on and it’s probably the same story in other cities. The top news on local radio stations today was that traffic lights for the most part are not synchronized, causing headaches, congestion and unnecessary idling, this from a city hall packed with greenie weenies.

     Instead of keeping traffic moving and polluting less, they would have you stop every block and also sit and wait behind streetcars who’s day have passed. Now in New York City you may have noticed that despite the best subway system in North America, the streets are jammed with vehicles. BUT the city does what it can to keep traffic flowing, slowly but still moving. On a New York episode of Motoring we showed you how all street and avenue traffic lights are perfectly synchronized.

     Some in Toronto smell a conspiracy.  Hmmm...

I don't know who the genius (I use the term very loosely) was that came up with that idea but the theory is that you slow down the traffic flow because in that same genius (again.....term used very loosely) engineer's mind, slow traffic is calm traffic. They're f'n nuts if that's what they think it does. Man our Planners and Engineers are out to lunch. Blinded by am academic theory that has absolutely zero credibility in the real world. But still they kling to it. Scared that if they don't, they will be kicked out of the Sierra Club.

Posted at 2010-09-24 19:47:35Yes! I've always said that Mississauga's traffic light system must be paid for by the oil companies. They go up seemingly on every block and are never synchronized so that you get multiple green lights in a row.
Posted at 2010-09-20 10:46:50Yes. Accelerates off from a green at a major intersection and then the next side street, some 100 to 200 meters away, always turns red and have to stop. Install smart traffic lights. Computers are dirt cheap. Fuel is getting very expensive. If all of us can save 15% of fuel with better flow of traffic, the money saved that can be spent elsewhere in the city...... No more recession.
Posted at 2010-08-28 22:17:20I live in Alberta and the city traffic is stop and go here as well. Who is the engineering department working for? Perhaps the oil companies.
